'After Dark' Back By Popular Demand At BFI IMAX

The BFI IMAX brings back its popular evening programming strand 'After Dark' this autumn, beginning with two horror movies on Halloween.
After Dark will show popular new films just after their West End opening run or classic favourites for fans to watch again on the big screen. Films will play in either the last evening slot - with start times between 8pm and 9pm - or occasionally as part of late night or all-night events similar to the recent Lord of the Rings trilogy all-nighter.
Films will be shown in their original theatrical 35mm format using traditional cinema projection (NB. not IMAX or IMAX DMR); the image will fill approximately one third of the giant screen and is one of the largest pictures in London. As the auditorium is designed as a sound studio, sound quality is excellent.
The BFI IMAX, a 445-seater auditorium two minutes from Waterloo station, offers a perfect view from steeply raked seats. Alcoholic drinks along with snacks, sweets and soft drinks are available to buy. In mid-November a dedicated bar will open on the first floor.
The After Dark programme will change weekly and customers are advised to check local listings information for details. Tickets prices are: Adults £8.50, Concessions £6.25.
After Dark launches with a one-night special on Halloween, Tuesday 31 October; there are two great films to choose from - 'The Hills Have Eyes' (Alexandre Aja, 2006) at 7.20pm and 'Hostel' (Eli Roth, 2005) at 10.00pm. The programme continues as follows:
November 2006:
  • Fri 3 - Thurs 9 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Gore Verbinski, 2006)
  • Fri 10 - Thurs 16 The Black Dahlia (Brian De Palma, 2006)
  • Fri 17 - Thurs 23 The Devil Wears Prada (David Frankel, 2006)
  • Fri 24 - Thurs 30 The Departed (Martin Scorsese, 2006)
Dennis Laws, General and Technical Manager commented: “After Dark offers residents and commuters around SE1 another local venue with easy access in which to watch films during the evening. Once our new bar is up and running we can also provide a spacious, relaxed atmosphere in which customers can meet friends for pre-show drinks and see a great movie. Drinks may also be taken into the auditorium.”
