Harris Corporation To Present Paper At The International Mobile TV Summit

Dr. Glodina Connan, key account executive for Harris Corporation’s Broadcast Communications Division, will present a paper titled 'Understanding the Roles of Different Broadcasting Standards' during the Cable and Satellite International Mobile TV Summit being held at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London on Thursday, 19 October 2006.
The presentation will highlight what mobile TV operators should consider when developing a strategy for deploying a mobile TV network. The discussion will include a critical area of concern to many broadcasters: choosing the optimal RF frequency for broadcasting multimedia content to mobile devices. In a number of areas of the world, broadcasters plan to use UHF frequencies such as DVB-H and FLO for such services, but other bands — from 175 MHz to 2700 MHz — are being considered as well. Availability and cost of spectrum are key considerations, but many other aspects need to be considered as well, including maximum allowed power, potential deployment sites, effects on adjacent services, available RF channel bandwidth, propagation characteristics, potential handset antenna gain and overall cost of implementation.
Dr. Connan’s paper will outline the issues and characteristics of each of the major bands and present a framework for decision-making when choosing an RF frequency band for mobile television.
