Eyeheight reports highly successful Broadcast Asia

Eyeheight has reported a highly successful Broadcast Asia 2006 exhibition, held at the Singapore Expo June 20-23.
The event was organised as a trio including CommunicAsia and EnterpriseIT which collectively attracted 63,814 visitors, of whom 49 per cent were from overseas.
"A key message emerging from these three shows is the healthy demand for mobile television products and services, particularly among commuters in the major urban areas of south-east Asia," commented Eyeheight Managing Director Martin Moore. "People hitherto satisfied with portable DVD players to entertain them while travelling are now potential audiences for broadcast and netcast programmes. 625/525-line SD is an ideal standard for this application and should ensure the survival of standard-resolution long after mainstream broadcasting has migrated to 1080-line and 720-line HD.
"Recognition of this new market translated into a high level of interest in our multidefinition production equipment. Cost and size are no longer a barrier to HD operation; we can deliver an 8-input irisHDi multistandard HD/SD production switcher for under 13,000 euro, just 3,000 euro more than the SD-only model. This includes programme/preset control and two auxiliary bus outputs, video mix, wipe and cut as well as U and V fades/transitions under manual or automatic control. Two irisHDi switchers can be housed in our 1U evolutionDT hardware platform.
"Broadcast Asia visitors were also highly focused on the benefits of modularity. Every designer plans and builds in a modular fashion but does not always deliver the full power of that modularity to the end user. A multidefinition master control switcher, for example, should ideally be scalable from a very simple SDI A/B mixer up to a full-blown mix/wipe/key/DVE/clock-insertion master control system simply by adding different modules. Equally importantly, the system should be inherently easy to reconfigure to accommodate extra channels or a changing operational environment.
"I must add my personal thanks to Trade Fairs Limited who organised the British pavilion on which we exhibited. Eyeheight has participated in many broadcast industry events over the years but Trade Fairs managed to make this one of the most successful I can remember. We will be back next year."
