BBC Wales selects SGL FlashNet for networked digital news system

Software Generation Ltd (SGL), a leading provider of digital video storage/archive management software, has announced that BBC Wales is installing SGL FlashNet as part of its networked digital news system, which includes desktop editing and production servers, based on Grass Valley systems from Thomson (TGV).
"SGL FlashNet is a very important piece of software that sits between the Grass Valley system and a Sony Petasite allowing BBC Wales' operators to have access to the archive at all stages. This will include pulling archived clips from the library or to taking clips directly from automation or asset management to the archive for long-term storage," said Wyn Jones, Manager of Technology at BBC Wales. SGL FlashNet was chosen ahead of its competitors because of its tight integration with the TGV Newsbrowse system, scalability and cost effectiveness.
Bernie Walsh, SGL Sales Director, added: "Whether a broadcaster is part of a huge network of stations, or the smallest independent on the block, the ability to grow is what keeps it moving forward. SGL FlashNet will allow BBC Wales to accommodate the increasing amount of data that is part of the modern broadcast environment, whilst also being able to maximise the use of its most valuable assets. We are extremely pleased to have been selected by BBC Wales to supply the storage management software for this prestigious project, against some stiff competition."
