BBC RESOURCES FIRES UP NEW INFERNO

News Image
BBC Resources have purchased Discreet’s Fire and Inferno two of the industry’s cutting edge editing and design tools for two of its main post production suites.
BBC Resources in Bristol have invested in Fire, a non-linear editing system, developed for online editing applications and complex visual effects compositing in film, HDTV, NTSC and PAL. Using Fire’s real-time inactivity, editors can capture, conform edit and composite images while providing the instant feedback necessary for experimentation.
A Topline visual effects suite Inferno is due to go online in London in November where Resources intend to attract both internal and external work in the high-end design market.
Paul Grice, director of operations nations and regions said: “BBC Resources is set to make Bristol its major high definition centre following the decision to purchase Europe’s first broadcast HD installation from Discreet. This represents the second major investment in our facilities in Bristol and proves our commitment to programme makers in the area and positions our facilities significantly ahead of our competition.”
Fire and Inferno are the latest acquisitions in an investment programme by BBC Resources. They follow the purchase of Diamond telecine in Bristol, used for natural History Unit programmes and a Philips Spirit in London, which is currently being used on Steven Spielberg’s ‘Band Of Brothers’.
Andy King Post Production manager said: “This shows our commitment to high definition television to the international market. We needed to be able to offer the latest technology and the most creative especially in natural history programmes.”
