DK-Technologies introduces a new concept for monitoring video signals

After more than 40 years of traditional waveform monitoring, DK-Technologies is set to re-invent the wheel by launching a new ‘Spinner’ display that will literally have video professionals seeing colours.
The Spinner display, which was on show as a prototype at this year’s NAB Convention, is so revolutionary that it is destined to take the video industry by a storm. Its intuitive nature means that anyone involved in video recording or post production will immediately be able to see and understand exactly what is happening with their video signal.
Taking on the might of the establishment is no easy thing, but DK-Technologies is not afraid of a challenge, having already achieved a similar feat with its JellyFish audio display technology that rapidly became an industry standard when it was launched at the end of the 1990s.
Karsten Hansen, CEO of DK-Technologies, believes it is only a matter of time before the new Spinner display revolutionises the video industry in the same way.
“Re-thinking the display of digital video information so that it is presented in a simple and intuitive way has been the industry’s unspoken demand for some time,” he says. “With Spinner, we believe we have come up with the solution – a display that combines the benefits of traditional waveform monitors with the convenience of histograms by showing the red, green, blue, and luminance components in the video signal in such a clear way that even a non video professional will be able to read and understand it.”
Taking its name from the shape of the traditional hand spindles that have been used to produce thread and yarn for centuries, DK’s Spinner display is optimised to provide the video professional with usable information to align video cameras and to monitor video production. In the post production environment, the display constantly monitors the video signal and supports the operator in optimising programme material and keeping his video material within the technical limits of the video signal.
