Cicada commissions DVA for 3D HD effects

Post facility and interactive digital marketing agency DVA has been commissioned by independent producer Cicada Films to produce high-definition special effects for the documentary ‘Europe’s Secret Quakes.’
The programme, made for the National Geographic Channel, simulates the devastating effects of an earthquake in Northern Europe.
DVA used 3D Studio Max, After Effects, Adobe Photoshop and Avid Adrenalin to create 20 high-definition special effects shots. The Hampshire-based facility also produced graphics and map sequences for the documentary.
The project was overseen by creative director Matthew Baxter and senior animator Andy Kucharczyk. Animators were Adam Inskip and Simon Barrett and Steve Whetton was the senior editor.
Baxter commented on the project: “Moving into high-definition on this type of project represents a big challenge. The results are not always predictable, and the immense increase in the quantity of data means that time gets swallowed up rendering in the way it used to years ago. We really learned a lot – and feel we are a little ahead of the game now. The end product was great and we can’t wait for the next one.”
