New CrimeVision Software from Zen

Unless you live the life of a hermit in the remotest part of the land, you can hardly not have noticed that there's a lot of CCTV cameras in the UK - back in 2002 a report estimated that the UK had 2.5 million of the world's 25 million CCTV cameras.
So where does the postproduction industry come into all this?
The problem with much CCTV footage is that it's not recorded like normal video recordings, so what ends up on a typical VHS tape is a multiplexed sequence of frames (or fields) from a number of different camera sources. What's needed in order to analyse the video evidence is the reconstruction of each camera's output in isolation.
This can be done quite easily from the original tape by the machine which made the recording, but what when the recording machine isn't available or the tape has been copied and lost its camera ID information? One answer is CrimeVision. This new software package was developed in conjunction with the Institute for Forensic Imaging in the USA, and runs on any Windows XP PC. It processes AVI video files captured from any source, and uses pattern recognition to identify and split up to 16 camera sources into individual files.
Additionally, it can export frames, re-align fields to reduce interlace blur, reduce noise by frame averaging, and overlay comparative measuring tools.
For facilities who already have a PC editing system, CrimeVision adds the capability to process CCTV and other video material for presentation as evidence, and offer an additional service to the legal profession, insurance companies and law enforcement agencies.
Crimevision (costs £1495 + VAT and) is available from ZEN Computer Services, who can also offer demonstration facilities (using the client's own footage, if available).
