Sony's HD playback/record systems on show at NAB

Sony will have the HVR-M25 and HVR-M15 HDV videocassette recorder systems on show at NAB2006.
These new HDV videocassette recorders capable of 1080i recording and playback and which support both standard and mini-size DV cassettes, expand the options for video professionals.
The new decks are switchable between 50 and 60 Hz (PAL/NTSC) and both offer, HDVTM, DVCAM and DV SP recording and play back capability, providing users with an easy migration from Standard to High Definition production. Other shared features include the ability to copy external timecode through the “HDV/DV in TC” feature, and a range of connectivity options including i.LINK, component output, S-Video I/O, composite I/O and analog audio I/O.
The HVR-M25 adds both 1080i/50 to 720/50p conversion capabilities and 1080i/60 to 720/50p as well as an HDMI output for connections to consumer TVs or DVD players, a Custom Repeat feature and Edge Crop adjustments allowing users to adjust edge crop areas manually whilst down-converting in this mode. The HVR-M15 is compact, with a small footprint that enables it to be unobtrusively added to existing work environments.
There are also two new additions to Sony’s XDCAM family of Professional Disc products, the PDJ-A640 cart system, which has a capacity of holding up to 640 of Sony’s Professional Discs, and the PDW-R1 field recorder/player - both broaden production capabilities.
The new cart system, which complements the 80 disc PDJ-C1080 cart machine, can be used with up to 4 XDCAM decks, including both the PDW-1500 and the recently introduced PDW-F70. Both robotics-controlled cart systems can be used for a variety of applications including, automated ingest play-to-air transmission, short to mid-term archival storage library, and for on-and off-line digitising. Both also feature a bar code reader and remote control interfaces, which are compatible with Sony’s PDJ-CS10 cart interface software.
The PDW-R1 field recorder can be AC or battery-powered, features a tilt-up LCD screen and a range of interfaces. It has a low power consumption of just 35W and is available with such features as audio monitor select and mix out select.
