CONTENTWISE, developers of video matching technology, have launched a new system, RecogVision. The system makes it easier to find matching videos from an archive, and can also identify any video clips that have been duplicated.
RecogVision builds on technology used in their previous product, WorldWideWatch, a video search engine which creates a ‘Video DNA’ code for each individual video frame or keyframe using seven different pattern types, so that each clip can be identified later without affecting the video.
WorldWideWatch works in realtime on NT-based PC’s and is being used in a beta test for the BBC, who have been using it to track their use of news agency material from AP and Reuters on four of their channels since July 2000.
The system is aimed at anyone who deals with large amounts of video, including ad agencies and movie studios who often have multiple versions of the same material that differ only slightly from each other.
RecogVision can spot any differences so users only have to save the master copy.
ContentWise Director of Engineering Shai Lipovich believes that the system will make it easier to make money out of existing footage, because broadcasters will be able to enforce their rights.
