TSL announces first sale of DOLBY E HD monitoring system for major HD OB installation

TSL has announced more sales of its Dolby E and HD audio monitoring units to Neil Wilson Enterprises (NWE), a long-established UK based systems integrator specialising in outside broadcast solutions.
Following an impressive demonstration of the AMU2-8HD by TSL at IBC 2005, NWE ordered six units for two 24-camera HD Outside Broadcast (OB) installations for a leading UK broadcaster. Three units have already been installed in the broadcaster’s first HD OB vehicle and are currently being used to cover events at the Winter Olympics taking place in Turin, Italy. The further three units will shortly be installed in the broadcaster’s second OB vehicle, which is due for completion in May 2006.
Neil Wilson, NWE CEO, said: “NWE has had a long and satisfactory relationship with TSL and its UMD products, which have now become an industry standard. The after sales support is excellent, which is important on a software-based product. We particularly like the responsiveness TSL has to input from its customers like ourselves in the product design and implementation” .
“We are delighted to be working with NWE on this project. TSL has listened to the needs of the industry as HD rolls out and we have responded with a unique product that takes audio and video monitoring technology to the next level for any customer migrating from SD to HD,” explained Russell Grute, Head of Sales at TSL.
Dolby E allows up to eight audio channels to be carried in a single AES stereo pair and has begun to gain considerable market acceptance. Used to carry 5.1 surround signals or multi-language services, Dolby E facilitates the expansion of audio capacity in a typical digital facility.
TSL’s HD AMU unit offers all the usual TSL audio monitoring facilities and allows 16:9 HD video signals, at any standard resolution, to be down-converted in the unit and then displayed on a 4:3 SD or composite monitor. The units also offer HD/SD pass-through with re-clocking. One of the core advantages is that by using TSL’s technology, only one BNC need be connected at any given operator position to be able to both “see” the video and hear the audio.
