BBC SELECTS OMNIBUS FOR REGIONAL INSTALLATIONS

THE BBC are set to implement digital media management and control solutions from OmniBus Systems, providers in total television station automation, in a major upgrade to their regional infrastructure.
The installations, which will take place later this year, are part of a contract between the BBC and broadcast systems integrator, Television Systems, to install video server, editing and control equipment in Tunbridge Wells and central London.
Mike Stoker, OmniBus’ Sales Manager, said: “We have worked with TSL on a large number of BBC installations over the last few years and look forward to extending this relationship on these important news projects.”
The OmniBus equipment will control the transfer of material around the two facilities as well as play-to-air. It will also manage the server infrastructure and the content maintained on these servers.
At both facilities, the OmniBus solution will be linked to the BBC’s Electronic News Production System (ENPS) by means of a MOS interface. This enables OmniBus to make media data available to ENPS and conversely, ENPS’ running orders to download Omnibus.
Part of the BBC’s reorganisation of their London and South East region, the new London facility will also transmit local news and is based in a building in Marylebone High Street, formerly the headquarters of Greater London Radio (GLR).
Both projects are scheduled to go to air in early 2001.
