BIFA AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

JUSTINE Wright, editor of ‘One Day In September’, won the ‘Best Newcomer (off-screen)’ at the recent British Independent Film Awards held at the Café Royale in London.
Sponsored by ultimatefilm.com, the ‘Best Newcomer (off-screen)’ award was created for Heads of Department on their first feature film.
‘Billy Elliot’ received two awards for ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best British Independent Film’. Stephen Daldry, who directed ‘Billy Elliot’ was awarded ‘Best Director’, and Jamie Bell won ‘Best Newcomer (on-screen)’.
Andrew Eaton was awarded ‘The Producer of the Year’, and ‘The Lifetime Achievement Award’, sponsored by Screen International was given to Colin Young.
The Awards were created in 1998, to celebrate merit and achievement in independently funded British filmmaking, honour new talent, and promote British films and filmmaking to a wider public.
