SILVER SCREEN TREATMENT FOR HOSPITAL PATIENTS

BROADCASTING Minister Janet Anderson has joined with senior figures in the film industry to support the hospital cinema charity MediCinema.
At ‘Strictly Not Ballroom’, a celebration of the Silver Screen, Anderson and other leading figures in the industry reinforced their support for the MediCinema charity.
‘Strictly Not Ballroom’ was held in London were major distributors and celebrity patrons including Anthony Andrews, Honor Blackman, Mariella Frostup, Vas Blackwood and Ian Richardson turned out for the event.
Anderson said: “I have visited many auditoriums but rarely have I seen an audience so appreciative as the one at the opening of the first MediCinema. Patients need escapism and a break from the daily routine of life on their ward. The Arts and Culture can do much to improve and enhance a hospital stay and there is a clear and positive response from patients and health care workers. I am delighted to continue to support this worthwhile venture and applaud UGC cinemas for their on-going commitment to the charity.”
Last year, the charity opened their first ever purpose built MediCinema at St Thomas’s hospital in London which provides access for patients in beds and wheelchairs.
‘Strictly Not Ballroom’ was held at Vinopolis on London Bankside and sponsored by UGC cinemas.
