Complicated communications configuration calls for Riedel

When the AFL-CIO needed a complicated audio and communications configuration for their 2005 Quadrennial Convention in late July they turned to the experts for the best possible solution.
Working on behalf of Velocity Communications (Alexandria, VA), an event production company hired by the AFL-CIO to facilitate the project, OSA International equipped Festival Hall at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL with a complete Riedel audio and communications system. OSA is a leading full service sound and technical management company that specialises in corporate industrial shows, special events and entertainment.
The highly publicised AFL-CIO convention served double-duty as a meeting with nearly 1000 delegates from 56 unions and a celebration of the federation’s 50th year.
OSA used four Artist-S frames each configured with two AIO-209 cards, one AIO-208 card, and one CAT5-208 card, to interface with six channels of Clear-com plus three different wireless intercom systems. The frames were installed at FOH, the backstage audio area, video village and near the AFL-CIO control platform and linked with a redundant loop of single mode fibre. A total of 16 Riedel control panels, twelve RCP-1012E and four DCP-1016E units were pressed into service, and the Company’s equipment was also used to distribute backstage audio feeds throughout the venue.
The event called for an elevated level of communication with an increased measure of security and privacy. Riedel’s Artist-S system enabled OSA to configure a variety of conferences containing two or more people, plus point-to-points to achieve this goal.
