MITIL CONVENTION TARGETS INDEPENDENT BROADCASTERS

REPRESENTATIVES from national associations of independent European broadcasters have organised a convention for local and independent broadcasters and producers in Europe.
The convention entitled MITIL aims to provide an annual platform for independent producers, programme makers and local and regional broadcasters as well as independent webcasters.
Scheduled for June 20-23 at Vevey in Switzerland, MITIL will incorporate a technical exhibition and discussion forum.
The initiators from Belgium, Italy, Spain and Switzerland have developed an action plan, which foresees the founding in February 2001 of a European Federation of Independent and Local Broadcasters.
The new organisation is to be based on a similar model to that of the International Webcasters Federation.
Following the creation of the first European Federation, the organisers also propose to launch a Global Service Organisation.
