Omneon spectrum media server supports Sci Fi Channel playout for CNBC Europe

Omneon Video Networks has announced that CNBC Europe has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system for streamlined and reliable transmission of all content for NBC Universal's Sci Fi channel.
The new Omneon system, installed at CNBC Europe's London facility, plays out movies, interstitials, commercials, and programming for broadcast across the UK to the eight million viewers on the Sky pay-TV platform.
"We evaluated our needs and the products currently available on the market and found the Omneon server system to be the best fit for our operations. It offered excellent flexibility and scalability, and a very attractive price point as well," said CNBC Europe Director of Operations John Turner. "We're very pleased with how the Omneon system has performed. It has been very reliable and changed our workflow considerably - for the better - by making it easy for operators to move complete files, whether small or large, in and out of the server. Interfacing with our Pebble Beach automation was straightforward, and the two vendors worked well together in providing the solution and support we required."
An exceptionally cost-effective and flexible media server designed for the professional television industry, the Omneon Spectrum media server provides a reliable and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. Integration of CNBC Europe's new Omneon Spectrum system with Pebble Beach Neptune automation has allowed the network to run the Sci Fi channel solely from a single server system.
The distributed architecture of the modular Omneon Spectrum server system provides easy expansion capability, giving CNBC Europe a simple and affordable means of scaling system components and capacity in small or large increments as the facility's playout requirements change. The server system currently has two terabytes of storage and will expand easily to support the launch of additional channels in the future.
