RTL-TVI and MEDIApro opt for EVS CleanEdit in tapeless ingest system

Both RTL-TVI in Brussels and MEDIApro for Antena 3 in Madrid have chosen EVS' CleanEdit News Production System for a tapeless news ingest process.
RTL-TVI is one of the world’s leading end-to-end tapeless broadcasters, from ingest through to playout and archiving. MEDIApro will use the CleanEdit system for its news production work for Antena 3, one of Spain’s largest TV Station. Both RTL-TVI and MEDIApro have acquired brand-new tapeless camcorders (respectively Sony’s XDCAM and Panasonic’s P2) as well as CleanEdit’s new Media Importer module from EVS, as an interface to their new cameras for a tapeless ingest process.
RTL-TVI has recently replaced its SX cameras with Sony’s brand-new XDCAM tapeless camcorders. As a result, the TV station is not only tapeless in its editing, a process that started in the summer of 2004 after the company installed EVS’ CleanEdit newsroom production system, but now also in the processes of ingest and archiving. CleanEdit is a suite of production applications to build an end-to-end non-linear production system for the television newsroom.
RTL-TVI has installed the new Media Importer module of EVS’ CleanEdit system in order to integrate and manage this tapeless ingest process. With the current implementation, news stories are captured with Sony XDCAM camcorders (DVCAM), before being transferred and manipulated by MOG Solutions’ MXF tools under the control of the Clean Edit media Importer, to be edited and managed by EVS’ CleanEdit in a complete end-to-end MXF system without the need for decoding. This system avoids the bottleneck of the real-time transfer process from tape-based cameras. Low-resolution proxy data is captured simultaneously with high-resolution content and sent through the system up to 50 times faster than real-time. The high-resolution quality images are delivered in the background during editing and can be immediately played out without any rendering process.
An ATM network connects the three regional RTL-TVI offices (Liège, Namur and Antena 3 decided to outsource the news production from all its correspondents and regional news offices outside Madrid to MEDIApro. For this new contract, MEDIApro has acquired the CleanEdit system and six brand-new Panasonic P2 camcorders to produce the news coming in from Barcelona. This Digital News Production system is made up of two Hi Res ingest channels, four CleanEdit workstations, one EVS Media server with around 350 hours of storage and two playout channels.
