Working television studio proves popular at SkillCity

The broadcast studio co-ordinated by Skillset and sponsored by the BBC, Channel 4, five and PACT, was mobbed on the opening day of SkillCity, Europe`s largest ever careers event.
The working television studio offering visitors the chance to 'have a go' at camerawork, editing, vision mixing, set styling, make up, and commentating on a David Beckham goal for England, was forced to close down for more than an hour amid safety concerns.
Chief Executive of Skillset, Dinah Caine, said: "It`s been enormously encouraging to see the interest and enthusiasm in the television industry shown by young people here. Skillset's co-ordination of the Broadcast Studio came about at the request of the industry itself, which realises the importance of looking to the talent of the future to sustain a strong skills base, and therefore, quality output that competes in a global market."
Industry professionals from all sector areas and skillsformedia, the Skillset and BECTU managed careers service, were on hand throughout the event to dispel many of the glamorous myths surrounding the television industry and give young people a realistic picture of the opportunities open to them and the skills needed to take advantage of them.
SkillCity was organised by The Princes Trust and UK Skills.
