Telecast unveils new SG5070 fibre optic HD/SDI multiformat signal generator

The new SG5070 SDI-HD/SDI video signal generator, introduced by Telecast Fiber Systems, provides broadcasters with a convenient and affordable alternative for testing fibre and copper transmission paths and identifying signals in the field.
The new generator, which is capable of producing four different video test patterns in seven HD formats and six SDI formats, is designed to complement the company's existing Viper II line of fibre optic products.
In addition to its standard 75-ohm outputs, the SG5070 uniquely features the option for fibre optic ST connector outputs that enable direct-to-optical testing. This allows users to establish and verify high-bandwidth HD transport through their existing fibre networks. Pattern and format selection is accomplished from the module faceplate with easy-to-use buttons and LED displays. The new module can be used in the Viper II frame or as a stand-alone module equipped with an external 12-VDC power supply.
"Initially we needed to have the ability to generate a large number of high-quality SDI and HD/SDI signals for in-house testing of our various fibre optic transport devices," said Eugene Baker, CTO for Telecast. "It was an obvious next step to extend this functionality to the Viper II platform so that our customers would have a cost-effective way to run signals through their systems as well."
