New Zealand-based post house chooses Quantel’s eQ for HD multi-res editing

Flying Start Pictures has taken delivery of a Quantel eQ advanced multi-res post production system.
eQ is the resolution co-existent, HD/SD system that Quantel claim has everything a post house needs to do more work, more efficiently.
Established in 1989 in Auckland, Flying Start Pictures specialises in production and post production services for the film and television industry. Michael Bach, Technical Manager of Flying Start, recognised the increased demand both globally and locally for HD technologies. Bach explains, “An increasing number of our clients were taking a greater interest in HD. We needed an HD editing system that could do HD work as easily as SD whilst still delivering high quality results. Quantel’s eQ satisfied all our requirements. The eQ’s unique Resolution Co-existence was key for us, so that we could use different format material in the same project and on the same timeline. In addition, eQ had the ability to address all the various HD camera formats in the market currently which was very important to our workflow.”
Tony Vernal, Producer at Flying Start, added: “Presently we have been working on a number of HD television commercials such as Mitre 10 Megastore. We have found the Quantel system to be fast and efficient and the eQ handled the integration of HD and SD quite easily. Our editorial team has found the transition to the new system smooth & are enjoying the ability to give jobs an extra dimension with its extremely powerful colour grader.”
Julien James, MD, Quantel Australia, sees a real opportunity for Quantel technology in the New Zealand market. James explains, “Flying Start is a prime example of the New Zealand post production industry’s innovation and forward thinking when it comes to HD technologies. The industry here has really recognised HD’s global growth potential, are is actively investing in technology to meet the current and potential future demand. What makes Quantel’s eQ so appealing for the New Zealand market is its ability to address standard definition and HD editing requirements in the one suite.”
