HARDING APPOINTED TO SENIOR WORLD SERVICE POST

PHIL Harding has been appointed Director of English Networks and News for BBC World Service.
Harding is currently Controller of Editorial Policy at the BBC, responsible for developing and safeguarding editorial standards across all BBC programmes and services. He is a former editor of Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme and was founding head of Radio 5’s Live news and programmes department. He has also been appointed the corporations Chief Political Advisor.
Mark Byford, Director of BBC World Service, said: “Phil is joining the World Service in what is one of the most exciting positions in broadcasting. He brings a wealth of experience, great programme flair and a clear understanding of and commitment to the values of the World Service.”
In recent years, Harding’s team have won numerous Sony Gold Radio Awards and Broadcast Press Guild Awards and earlier in his career he won an International Emmy award for outstanding investigative journalism for his programme, ‘Who Killed Georgi Markov?’
Harding will take up his new appointment in the spring. He succeeds Bob Jobbins who is leaving the BBC after 30 years’ service. (CD)
