TVNZ GO FOR QUANTEL INSPIRATION

TVNZ are to install a Quantel Inspiration integrated news production system in their main Auckland newsroom.
Quantel and OmniBus Systems have jointly developed the news production system. As the prime contractor, Omnibus Systems, will bring together every facet of news production from media ingest and management to journalist desktop editing and playout automation in one central system.
The TVNZ Inspiration is scheduled to go on air in July 2001, producing five and a half hours of news programming every day.
Don Cunningham, Head of TVNZ news operations, said: “We believe that this solution represents the best, most integrated and secure way to move into server-based newsrooms. In addition, looking ahead, it will help us to re-purpose broadcast material for a broad range of uses including publishing audio and video content to our website and so enable us to move boldly into the multimedia future.”
The TVNZ system is founded on a 14 port, 100 hour (MPEG50) storage Quantel Clipbox Power server, with Clipnet background network connectivity. The system will support three craft editing seats, all working directly on material held in the server. A four-port, six-hour Quantel Clipbox Studio server completes the server set-up, acting as the to-air server and also providing extra redundancy.
Using Omnibus technology the system will allow journalists' edits on their workstations to be mirrored instantly in the Clipbox at full resolution, enabling material to be taken directly to air.
OmniBus Systems Group Managing Director, Brian Paisley, said: “We have worked closely with Quantel on a number of Inspiration installations around the world. Together we have more experience than anyone else in actually delivering the full potential of digital technology in the news arena. We’re delighted to be working with Quantel again at TVNZ.”
The TVNZ contract adds to the rapidly growing number of Inspiration systems now in service around the world, including ITN, KOMO Seattle, Botswana TV, TSR Switzerland and TRT Turkey. (CD)
