BBC Training & Development launches free 'Good Shooting Guide'

BBC Training & Development has launched a new interactive online training module free to the public.
The Good Shooting Guide uses original BBC content to demonstrate how to get the best sequences for TV. The module is aimed at anyone working with television production as well as members of the public interested in learning more.
The Guide was launched to BBC staff last month and this is the first time the BBC is sharing this type of high-end online training material for free with the industry and the public.
Self-op is a big issue in the industry today and the guide gives practical advice on how to plan a shoot, choose equipment, get the best sound quality and capture the best footage that can be edited successfully. Footage from high profile BBC programmes Blue Peter, Tiger Trail etc. with comments from well-known directors, producers and editors, is being used in video master classes.
The BBC is working with Bristol-based Electric Pavilion and Watershed on their 90 Second Challenge project; an initiative aimed at encouraging members of the public to produce 90-second short films.
In this pilot scheme The Good Shooting guide will be used as a learning resource. BBC is syndicating the content for free through Watershed’s website where it’s been tailored to suit the specific audience. BBC staff will also be involved in running workshops at the Watershed through the BBC Learn for Real initiative.
“We have a responsibility to the industry to share our knowledge and increase media literacy among our audiences. The Good Shooting Guide is the first example of how we are reusing, and repurposing our internal online content for these groups,” said Nigel Paine, Head of BBC Training & Development.
“The Watershed is especially interesting as it serves as a model for our increasing collaboration with partner organisations, where we give free content, tailored for their target audience”, concluded Nigel Paine.
The online module is available for free on www.bbctraining.com.
BBC Training & Development is the world’s most renowned broadcast training organisation offering training and development within the BBC and across the industry.
In 2004 the organisation arranged over 83,000 training days in Television, Radio, Broadcast Technology, New Media, Leadership Development, IT skills and Health and Safety.
