MCMILLAN INSTALL V4 AVID DS AT THE FINISHING POST

BROADCAST specialists McMillan are working with postproduction company The Finishing Post to install the newly arrived Avid DSVersion 4.0.
The installation is likely to make The Finishing Post one of the first facilities in the country with the ability to transfer between a Media Composer and the new DS system.
Still a relatively young company, The Finishing Post was formed in October 1998 and has already gained a reputation for high quality work. Previous work includes production for conference companies dealing with major Blue Chip companies like Honda, TNT, Peugeot, Jaguar and GlaxoSmithKline. These companies expect the highest level of visual output and the footage requires extensive layering to achieve the desired effects. McMillan, as an Avid Premier Reseller, was able to advise The Finishing Post on the best equipment to meet the company’s needs.
The new capabilities in V4 should help the company to realise a superior return on investment and greater profitability for system utilisation. The system pioneers a number of features new to editors and digital artists providing them with unlimited opportunity for experimenting with their creative environment.
Key features available in DS 4 include remote processing capabilities, expanded interoperability with other Avid systems, OMF audio for tighter integration with the Digidesign ProTools system, faster, more effective conforming with OMFi compositions and support for SOFTIMAGE|XSI software on the same system.
The extended workgroup support provides the ability to share DS media across projects, import sequences and clips from remote machines and automatically outsource effects to third-party applications. New graphics and effect capabilities enhance performance and creative features.
The Remote Processing option should make a major difference to productivity on complex graphics projects, as it allows more simultaneous options producing a better result.
The Finishing Post have two staff editors with over 30 years experience between them and their Visual Effects department has reportedly become one of the busiest in the midlands. (GB)
