LONDON facility Rushes have completed post production on John Hillcoat's new 'Black Man on Television' BT Ethnic Minority Media Award (BT Emma) commercial.
The commercial, produced by Oil Factory for agency Quiet Storm, stars British singer Gabrielle and seeks to reminds viewers of just how much times have changes in the last 20 years.
The scene opens on a suburban street in London, Summer 1976. The mixed race community go about their business; kids are riding their bikes and neighbours are hanging out, shooting the breeze.
The scene cuts to Gabrielle’s sitting room, where her Dad is watching TV. He gasps in shock: "Well kiss me nose, there’s a black man on TV!" The entire household gather around the TV and we see images of icons such as Gandhi, Mohammed Ali and Nelson Mandela. Gabrielle stares at the screen transfixed.
Cutting to the present day, Gabrielle leans upon a television telling everyone to check out the BT Ethnic Minority Media Awards.
Rushes Producer Graham Bird said: "The Director, John Hillcoat, was keen to recreate the look of the summer of 1976. Rushes Fire Artist, Paul Wratten, composited and tracked the material into the television screen and added lens flares." (GB)
