DGGB HONOUR MICHAEL POWELL

THE Directors Guild of Great Britain (DGGB) have honoured the Director Michael Powell with a prestigious commemorative event.
The tribute saw the awarding of the DGGB’s inaugural plaque in honour of Michael Powell. Secondly, and in collaboration with the recently re-opened Electric cinema, there was a screening of Powell’s film ‘Peeping Tom’ on April 1.
One of the most controversial films of its time, ‘Peeping Tom’ was slated by the critics and originally disowned by its distributor as a consequence of its dark exploration of the inherent voyeurism and scopophilia of the cinema.
The DGGB seeks to inspire emerging filmmakers through their training programme, by allowing them access to established directors and observing them at work and sharing their experience. (CD)
