PAXSON STANDARDISE ON TEKTRONIX EQUIPMENT

Tektronix, world leaders in enabling the transition to digital video, have announced that Paxson Communications have standardised on Tektronix video measurement and monitoring equipment for use in their PAX TV Network.
Paxson, who have experienced tremendous success with their unique template approach to the digital TV transition, have chosen Tektronix waveform monitors and generator platforms to incorporate into the master control suites of their broadcast facilities.
Paxson have also standardised on the Tektronix 8VSB measurement set for digital transmitter monitoring with an initial purchase of 17 units.
David Glenn, Vice President of Engineering at Paxson, said:"We selected Tektronix as our digital measurement equipment provider based upon their wide range of products for digital broadcast applications and the flexibility those products provide us. Their products' modular design and easy-to-use interfaces are proof that Tektronix are committed to providing their customers the tools they need to be successful in the digital era. And Tektronix looks towards future-proofing their solutions, too. When we incorporate high-definition into our master control facilities, we will be able to easily upgrade to high-definition measurement tools."
The master control system used in broadcasting is the all-important switching link for video and audio sources being released live from a television facility to the transmission device. Making the transition to digital infrastructures requires superior reliability, performance, and flexibility from a master control system. Paxson purchased Tektronix digital measurement equipment, including TG700 generator platforms, WFM601 and 1760 waveform monitors, and 764 digital audio monitors, for use in their master control facilities.
While digital television provides many benefits, it also has pitfalls for broadcasters, including ‘the cliff effect’. A reference to the narrow gap between customers receiving a quality digital signal, or no signal at all, ‘the cliff effect’ is a key factor in the need for continuous monitoring of 8VSB transmitters. Paxson will use RFA300A 8VSB Measurement Sets for their DTV transmission monitoring needs. (CD)
