Opitbase supplies solutions for Palestinian election

Optibase, a leading provider of video streaming solutions, has announced that the Palestinian Telecommunication Company (Paltel) selected its MGW 2000 streaming platform to deliver live news from numerous sites of the Palestinian Authority during the recent elections.
Paltel has stationed Optibase’s encoding and streaming stations in Gaza, Nables, Ramallah and Bethlehem to deliver 24 x 7 video feeds from these sites during the elections to the Authority. The video feeds were transported over Nortel’s SDH network, which provides a highly reliable, predictable and resilient network solution for distance-extended applications. On the receiving end, MPEG 2 decoders output an SDI signal, maintaining broadcast quality standards, using new packet over SDH technology.
The company stated that the combination of Optibase’s MGW streaming platforms and MPEG-2 decoders form a unique video contribution solution and that Paltel’s requirements for a high quality, 24 x 7 cost effective video streaming reliable platform were perfectly matched.
“Nortel is pleased about the use of its SDH transmission infrastructure, which is among the most advanced in the region,” said Sorin Lupu, President Israel, Poland and South Eastern Europe Region, Nortel EMEA. “Video over SDH is only one of the advanced services that can be implemented on this type of network and undoubtedly represents the first of other advanced services to follow. We welcome the cooperation with Optibase and hope that it will yield additional successes in the future.”
Optibase’s CEO Uzi Breier said: “Instead of using satellite transmission or leased analog lines or fixed lines which are all very costly methods of transporting video, our solution enables Paltel to take advantage of IP-based networks, significantly reducing its costs while maintaining broadcast video quality. This is a huge benefit.”
