Highflying student hits the big time in '25 words or Less' Lottery scheme

A highflying medical student who finds his career threatened by his flatmate is one of three feature film ideas to be awarded £10,000 through the UK Film Council Development Fund’s ‘25 Words or Less’ scheme.
Each of the projects will now receive National Lottery funding so that they can be fast-tracked to a full screenplay.
Writers had to pitch their concept for an action adventure, love story or comic odd couple movie in not more than 25 words.
Natalie Wreyford, of the UK Film Council’s Development Fund, said: “The 25 Words or Less scheme has proved to be a real success. It has helped to shine the spotlight on a new generation of genre writers - some who have received a real boost to their careers. One of the previous projects to be selected – 'Population' – has been bought by Working Title Films, Britain’s most successful film production company. I hope writers continue to take advantage of this opportunity and get their applications in for the next round.”
Writers have until February 1 to apply for the next round of the 25 Words or Less scheme.
Applicants must provide a pitch line of 25 words or less outlining the concept, a one-page outline of the whole story and ten pages of sample scenes from the chosen genre to demonstrate their ability to write in that genre. Application forms must come from a recognised UK literary or talent agent to be eligible or from full members of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain. All other potential applicants for development funding can apply through the normal application process.
