Three-part independent BBC production in post on Lightworks system

A three-part television Sally Head production of the novel 'Fingersmith', by Sarah Waters, author of 'Tipping the Velvet', is currently being edited by Bryan Oates on a Lightworks Touch edit system provided by Hyperactive Broadcast.
Bryan Oates has a long list of high-profile editing credits, including one of the first-ever edits on a Lightworks system: promo films on 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' for the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. Other projects he's worked on include two series of 'Bramwell', the feature film 'Sea Change' and a four-part mini series for Hallmark and RAI, 'Heaven Beneath the Desert'. Editing the latter took place in London and Rome over an eight-month period, with the Lightworks system air-freighted to Italy by Hyperactive.
For Oates, Fingersmith is his first edit on Touch, which he recently saw in action at a facilities house. Impressed by the system's performance, when the Fingersmith commission arrived he contacted Hyperactive, who agreed to purchase a system to be hired for the edit. He said: "When I got the commission for Fingersmith, I decided to see if I could use Lightworks again and the production company didn't quibble. People who haven't used a Lightworks don't realise the pleasure of working on a system that was actually designed by an editor. The Lightworks layout and interface is so simple and I can actually carry on editing while listening to my director.
"It is indeed true that you can 'play' a Lightworks system like a piano - I'm often saying so to my colleagues."
David Reeves of Hyperactive added: "We're pleased to be asked for Lightworks systems once again, as they're very straightforward to supply - just one model - and all we have to do is keep the software up to date. We have since bought a second system, which is currently being used to edit Murphy's Law for Tiger Aspect, whose new editor specifically asked for a Lightworks system.
"I met Keith and Sarah Gee at the Production Show and I liked the noises they were making about their plans for Lightworks. That encouraged us to think something good's going to happen to the company now and really move it forward."
