HOLLYWOOD TALENT KICKS OFF CARDIFF MASTERCLASS

ONE OF Hollywood’s hottest new talents will kick off a series of masterclasses organised by Cyfle, which are aimed at inspiring Welsh film makers.
Director Josh Rose has just completed filming ‘The Painting’. In advance of its cinematic release later this year, he and Writer/Producer, Marina Muhlfriedel, will present a two-day masterclass on the making of ‘The Painting’ at the Cyfle office in Cardiff on Tuesday-Wednesday, May 22-23 2001.
Over the two days, Josh and Marina will map the whole process of producing ‘The Painting’, from initial inspiration to story development, location scouting and casting, through pre-production, production and post production, and will explain how they overcame the problems they encountered. Scenes from the film will be shown and Josh will discuss the decisions he took when directing.
At 28-years-old, Josh Rose is regarded as one of Hollywood’s hottest new young up and coming directors. For the past decade he has directed and produced visual effects for film and television through his company VisionArt. During that time he worked on the Oscar winning film ‘Independence Day’, as well as a number of other major feature films, including ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Men in Black’. In 1995 he won an Emmy Award for his work on the ‘Star Trek’ television series.
Marina Muhlfriedel is a successful and experienced Producer/Writer who has a string of feature film and network television credits to her name. She worked with Danny DeVito on ‘The Ratings Game’, ‘Throw Momma from the Train’, and ‘The War of the Roses’. Since joining Santa Monica Studios as Senior Writer and Vice President of Feature Film Development, her feature length screenplays include ‘Godiva’ and the animated ‘Rabbit Tales’.
Sion Hughes, Chief Executive of Cyfle, said: “Josh and Marina will set the standard for this exciting series of masterclasses which Cyfle are arranging to inspire the talents of Welsh film makers. Over the next twelve months, we aim to bring a number of leading names of feature film making to Wales to encourage Welsh film makers to become more commercially orientated and entrepreneurial in their approach to film making.”
Shot entirely on location in Kansas City Missouri/Kansas, surrounding cities and Puerto Rico, ‘The Painting’ is set in Missouri during the 1950s. It is an interracial love story set against the backdrop of the civil rights movements and the Vietnam War. (GB)
