dB Broadcast refurbishes BBC Resources studio TC10

dB Broadcast has completed a major refurbishment of BBC Resources's studio TC10 at BBC Television Centre in west London.
The timescale was very short. Normally a project of this size would take about six months, but dB took only tens weeks from order to completion, and finished within budget.
The work included the installation of sound, vision and control equipment within the studio and associated production areas.
TC10 is one of a group of studios used by CBBC, with four hours of children's programmes broadcast live every weekday, as well as the Sunday Chart Show at the weekend.
dB worked very closely with the BBC to create a studio that met all of the BBC's requirements. An important aspect of this was that the flexibility of the systems ensures that single equipment failure will not prevent the output from being broadcast.
For the facility itself, the furniture included a new production desk and monitor stack, as well as a new sound control room desk and stack. The were also seven bays of equipment, which included, on the vision side, a Grass Valley Zodiac 24-channel 3 ME vision mixer with built-in DVE, frame and clip stores, along with a Thomson Nexstore 4 port server, controlled by Clipfinder software running on a PC at the director's position. Also included was an Aston Red character generator, a Pinnacle stillstore and, within the studio itself, five JVC KY-D29WE cameras.
On the audio side, a Calrec Q series analogue audio desk, with 24 mono and 12 stereo channels, was used, along with a Soundcraft KI grams desk with 10 stereo channels.
A 4-port Carillon audio PC, running SpotOn software, was installed to play out multiple WAV or MP3 format audio files controlled from a touch screen. Comms were provided by a Drake Pico talkback system.
Four digital TBUs, with associated clean feeds and communications, were installed to allow children to contribute live phone calls to the programme.
A video and audio bypass system was installed to allow the studio to rehearse while transmitting longer programmes, such as cartoons.
To meet the tight timescale, work on site was minimised throughout the project and significant use was made of prefabrication.
