PHILIPS AND OPENTV ANNOUNCE MIDDLEWARE SUPPORT

PHILIPS Semiconductors, a division of Philips Electronics, and OpenTV, the world's leading interactive television and media solutions company, have announced their intention to port OpenTV's interactive television (iTV) middleware to the Philips Semiconductors' Nexperiaä Home Entertainment Engine line.
The integration of OpenTV's proven iTV middleware solution with the Nexperia Home Entertainment Engine platform is expected to empower service providers to deliver interactive television applications on both today's set-top boxes and ‘next generation’ boxes.
OpenTV's middleware is expected to enable a variety of digital subscriber services on the Nexperia Home Entertainment Engine platform, including interactive television applications, commerce, interactive games and Web browsing.
The pnx8320 Nexperia Home Entertainment Engine, which supports highly interactive program material combining digital video, audio, 2-D graphics and Internet content, will be the first of the Nexperia Entertainment Engines to offer the integrated OpenTV solution.

Philips Semiconductors' pnx8525 is the first chip in the line targeted at advanced set-top boxes. The pnx8320 family of highly integrated, single chip solutions targets entry to midrange, advanced set-top boxes.
