Network Electronics help upgrade Korea Telecom's Satellite Operations division

Korea Telecom (KT) has installed a fully-redundant Network Electronics flashlink fibre optic transport platform in its Satellite Operations division, located in Kwan-Jin Gu, Seoul.
flashlink, widely accepted as an industry standard with unmatched quality in the optical domain, is allowing KT to receive 20 digital signals from 13 CATV providers and distribute the signals to 50 system operators in Korea via satellite.
The system was designed around 86 sets of flashlink’s SDI-TR and SDI-OE multi bit-rate converters and transponder modules. The SDI-TR provides high-performance media conversion for broadcast signals from 19.4Mbps up to 540 Mbps and can be configured as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical converter, or as an optical-to-optical transponder. The SDI-OE also provides high performance optical-to-electrical conversion for various signal formats from 19.4Mbps to 540Mbps.
KT is utilising the system, ideal for long haul applications up to 150km (97.5 miles), to deliver analogue video/audio, digital video/audio and analogue Q-tone signals.
KT chose flashlink because of the system’s high quality performance and easy configuration. The organisation’s previous experience with Network Electronics includes a VD1616 router from the company’s popular VikinX router range.
With flashlink up and running to KT’s satisfaction, the organisation has already puts plans in motion to extend the system with 30 additional fully redundant links.
