SHERIDAN GROUP IN LEGAL BATTLE OVER IMAX CINEMA
BELFAST-based Sheridan Group have said that the planned IMAX Cinema in the Odyssey arena is unlikely to open, and have commenced legal action against the IMAX Corporation.
A spokesperson from The Sheridan Group, said: “We have instituted legal proceedings against the IMAX Corporation, and we cannot comment any further until the legal proceedings have been initiated.”
However, the failure to open the IMAX cinema, which was scheduled to open in March, is seen as a severe setback for the Odyssey Complex in Belfast.
While the Sheridan Group are understood to be considering the installation of alternative large-screen technology in the theatre, it is still said to be empty.
The Group have put in over £25 million into the Odyssey project and over £50 million of public money has also gone into the prestigious development.
The setback comes after the Sheridan IMAX in Dublin closed down after box office ticket sales slumped. (CD)
