SKY DIGITAL OFFERS TEXT MESSAGING THROUGH TV

SKY DIGITAL viewers can now take part in the text-messaging revolution that continues to sweep the world. Viewers can send text messages to any UK mobile network simply by using their Sky remote control or cordless keypad.
Message to mobile is the latest feature to be added to Sky’s Messaging Centre in the Sky Text service.
Viewers need to press the ‘Text’ button while watching Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, Skysports.com TV, Sky One, Sky News, (.tv), Sky Welcome or Sky Latest and follow the easy on-screen instructions. The service incorporates useful features such as ‘common phrases’ which makes writing and sending messages easy. Messages cost 25p and can be composed either using the remote control or keypad.
Director of Sky Interactive, Jon Florsheim, said: “In the digital age, television is now a two-way device. As well as watching your favourite channels, Sky digital allows you to purchase goods, play games, send and receive emails and, now, send text messages. Message to mobile is just one of a series of new services that will be available to Sky digital viewers over the coming months”.
Sky digital’s Messaging Centre also offers two other convenient services enabling viewers to get the most out of Sky digital. The SMS Alerts service sends immediate updates straight to Vodafone mobiles so users can keep up to date with their favourite football team’s match scores, team news and find out which players have been issued red cards. Other SMS Alerts services will launch over the year.
Message Sky lets viewers keep in touch with the presenters and producers on their favourite Sky programmes. Select the programme you want to send a message to, write the message and send it in to Sky. (CD)
