XL Video supplies equipment for Apple Expo 2004

XL Video has supplied video production equipment for the recent 2004 Apple Expo in Paris.
This was the third consecutive year that XL has been involved with this high profile event. The keynote speech was staged at the Palais de Congres, and project managed for XL by Lee Spencer.
As in previous years, XL worked closely with US based show producers, Adams & Associates (A&A). While XL supplied the majority of the video, the projection side of the event was designed and installed by A&A themselves, with all sources running at three native rates, this resulted in a display of the highest possible quality. To achieve this display A&A overlaid three DP SX25s projectors.
The show, mixed by US-based Steve Barger, was particularly complicated. The main PPU system consisted of four cameras and a GVG1200 mixer/switcher. Two cameras with long lenses were positioned at FOH and a third, complete with standard lens was half way up the auditorium, focused on the product reveal for the new Apple iMac G5. The fourth camera was in the fifth row of seats, used for picking up speakers and presenters onstage.
The PPU included 10 record machines and three play-in machines. This allowed XL to play and record in both NTSC & PAL. A number of computer sources also had to be inputted into the video system. This was done via XL’s new top-end Folsom Image Pro scan converters.
XL also supplied front of house speaker/presenter support and slide preview monitoring, as well as all the back stage monitoring for the stage manager and technical crew. A matrix switcher gave complete flexibility when distributing the signal to the numerous positions required.
Spencer commented: “While Adams and Associates are technically very demanding as well as being very precise about what they require they are also very fair, it’s always good to work with a company that’s constantly driving the technology and quality of live events forward.”
