AVID ANNOUNCE AVAILABILITY OF NEWSCUTTER EFFECTS 2.5

AVID TECHNOLOGY, have announced the availability of Avid NewsCutter Effects version 2.5, the broadcast news industry’s first nonlinear editing system to conform to the D10 50 Mbit I-frame MPEG standard, which is directly compatible with the Sony® MPEG IMX® format.
With the new release, the NewsCutter Effects system supports all popular broadcast digital acquisition formats including DV25 and DV50, further demonstrating Avid’s commitment to a standards-based design.
Introduced in 1994, Avid NewsCutter was the first nonlinear editing system developed exclusively for broadcast news applications. The enhanced flexibility of version 2.5 is ideally suited for broadcasters that have not decided on a digital acquisition format, or for sites with hybrid format operations. Such broadcast professionals can standardise with NewsCutter Effects v. 2.5 and benefit from its ability to comply with their preferred acquisition format -- without having compatibility issues.
The D10 format was recently codified by SMTPE and defines an MPEG video format having constant-length frames, which can be easily edited and converted to and from more condensed MPEG formats used for transmission. It is directly compatible with MPEG IMX format digital video tape recorders from Sony Corporation.
Additional features that streamline the nonlinear news editor include: ‘Auto Voiceover’, which enables quick re-purposing of news stories, and ‘Script-based In/Out’, which allows journalists using the Avid iNEWS newsroom system to mark video in and out points within the script text to calculate the required length of a video clip.
In addition, this is the first version of the NewsCutter system to support the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system. Continuous development and refinement of the product line has led NewsCutter to become a preferred nonlinear system for news editing professionals worldwide. (CD)
