Grass Valley products and services from Thomson are playing a major role in capturing and producing the live and pre-edited television broadcast coverage of this year’s Centennial Olympic Games in Athens, transmitted to an estimated 3.2 billion viewers around the world.
Literally hundreds of its Grass Valley brand cameras, switchers, editing systems, servers, routing switchers, and modular products will bring the Games home in both SD and HD resolutions, providing the highest quality pictures ever seen in an Olympics telecast.
As the demand for HD has increased, so too has Thomson’s presence in the production community, and thanks to the company’s flexible, multi-format SD/HD switchable equipment strategy, all events from Athens will be simultaneously covered live in both SD and HD resolutions for several broadcast networks in Europe, Japan, Scandinavia, and the US.
