Neil Jordan feature ‘Breakfast On Pluto’ to receive NIFTC funding

Irish director Neil Jordan’s new feature, ‘Breakfast On Pluto’, is to receive an undisclosed amount of funding from the Northern Ireland Film & Television Council (NIFTC).
Produced by Alan Moloney of Parallel Film Productions and Stephen Woolley of Number 9 Films, Breakfast On Pluto has been adapted from the book of the same name by the author Pat McCabe, and Oscar winning writer/director writer Neil Jordan. Confirmed cast to date include Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy.
Budgeted at approximately £7.5 million, Breakfast On Pluto is a rites of passage drama set in 1970’s Ireland and London. The film follows the story of one Patrick “Kitten” Braden, a young man who is abandoned as a child by his mother. Left on the steps of the local parochial house, Patrick grows up in an abusive foster home. When he discovers that his father is the local priest and his mother was the priest’s disgraced housekeeper, Patrick determines to follow his mother to London.
Armed only with the knowledge that she looked like “Mitzy Gaynor in South Pacific” Patrick sets off. Adopting the female persona Kitten, and finding shelter and support where she can, Kitten makes her way from Ireland’s border counties to the heart of seventies London.
Shooting is planned for September 2004 on location in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
