FILM PRODUCERS CHOOSE LIVERPOOL AS PRIME LOCATION

A FILM partly shot in Liverpool is to go on general release at cinemas across the United Kingdom August 10 2001 – further enhancing the city’s growing reputation as the number one location for movie-making.
‘The Parole Officer’, written by and starring award winning comedian Steve Coogan, also features former James Bond star Roger Moore. In the film, Coogan plays a character who witnesses a serious crime and is framed for murder.
The former Bank of England on Castle Street was used to shoot scenes in which Coogan has to break into a bank vault and abseil across the roof of the building. Castle Street was also used for a sequence in which hundreds of cyclists take part in a protest rally.
Lynn Saunders, Manager of Liverpool City Council’s Film Office, said: “It has been a fantastic year for filming in Liverpool and it is great to see the city on the big screen. Some of the biggest names in the film world are now aware of our reputation as a city that welcomes producers and directors and does all it can to accommodate movie making. And the boom is continuing – with filming on two major productions currently underway in the city.”
Cult film director Alex Cox is making ‘Revengers Tragedy’, starring Sophie Dahl, Eddie Izzard and Derek Jacobi. A remake of TV period drama ‘The Forsyte Saga’ featuring Wendy Craig and Rupert Graves is also underway. (CD)
