Gloucestershire Media Group records successful launch

More than 200 people attended the official launch of the Gloucestershire Media Group (GMG) last Wednesday at Cheltenham Film Studios.
Guests, from corporate, public and education sectors along with a number of writers, producers and editors, witnessed a huge variety of live production displays covering film, TV, video games, SFX, music recording and props – all provided by media companies and professionals from within the county.
The highpoint of the day’s event was the live filming and editing of the final scene in the short comedy film 'Mr Hammermaier’s Scream'. Written and directed by David Pearson from Arturi Films, the cut completed in front of the audience using Art Electric’s Velocity system with special effects added with Fusion.
The day culminated in a panel discussion entitled '10 Ways to Avoid Having Your Pants Pulled Down by the Media' which was chaired by BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Ivor Ward Davies and included the Guardian’s Mathew Fort and filmmaker Jane Treays (Painted Babies, This Model Life, Public Enemy Mother and Son).
Paul Hassan, from South West Screen, said: “This launch has been a phenomenal success and just goes to show what can be achieved when a group of like minded individuals work together. This is not just a talking shop but a catalyst and creator of opportunities for the industry both locally and across the region.”
There was also an appearance by Gloucestershire band Ernest Cox who were filmed in a Top of the Pops style video shoot by Silicon 19 Media. Visitors were greeted on arrival by snow created and subsequently demonstrated by Snow Business.
Group Co-ordinator Val Adamson said: “The event proved to be an outstanding success and will provide a fantastic springboard from which the Group can move forwards. We’re already planning our next major event.”
GMG, which aims to generate the development and growth of skills and talent in the area, is the third such body to be created in the south west and is funded by South West Screen and the South West Regional Development Agency.
