EXPERT PANEL TO INVESTIGATE PRODUCERS' TAX BREAKS

ARE THE various tax driven schemes really the way ahead in film financing, or is a producer's life complicated enough?
A panel of industry experts are to examine the benefits of tax breaks for producers in film and television, and shed some light on this seemingly complex and mystifying process.
The panel will discuss the implications of sale and leaseback and other tax driven financing structures on the current UK film and television marketplace and to look at the implications of these structures for international co-productions involving producers and investors from multiple territories.
The panel will be chaired by Reno Antoniades of Lee and Thompson Solicitors. The panel members will include: Duncan Reid of Ingenious Media, managing agents of one of the most active sale and leaseback operations in the UK; Justin Thomson-Glover is a former lawyer who previously worked at Channel Four and Film Four and who is now Managing Director of Box Television, one of the UK's newest and most strident independent film and television production companies; and Bill Allan, Director of Baker Street Media Finance, which advises a number of tax-efficient UK co-production funds including Take Three TV Partnership.
This event will be part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival's FILM UK strand, and will be held at the Point Hotel Conference Centre, 32 Bread Street, Edinburgh on August 18 at 2pm.
The event is sponsored by Glasgow Film Office and supported by Scottish Screen. (CD)
