Cinecittà Digital choose da Vinci revival

da Vinci Systems has announced that Rome-based Cinecittà Digital has selected the company's revival restoration system for restoring and cleaning film and digital intermediate material prior to DVD mastering.
The revival system has been integrated into the company's new digital lab to improve the quality of the finished product while reducing the time and cost associated with the mastering process.
"We performed many tests comparing different systems, and we were most impressed with the revival for its ability to work in native resolutions and bit depths without conversion into other formats. We've also been impressed with the throughput on the variety of material we threw at the system," said Cinecittà Digital Facility Manager Fabio Filoni. "Since we have installed the system, the positive response and solutions we've gotten from da Vinci have been very helpful in completing particularly challenging restoration jobs."
The flexibility of da Vinci's revival system makes it a perfect fit for a broad range of production environments. Cinecittà Digital elected to employ the revival in its digital intermediate workflow as an SGI standalone system, working in SD and HD data with a 16-processor render farm for high throughput in conjunction with systems from manufacturers such as Quantel and Discreet. A team of operators uses the revival 24 hours a day on projects ranging from clean-up of all video and DVD masters, final clean-up on digital intermediate 2K and HDTV masters, and challenging restoration projects processed by the lab.
"Cinecittà Digital has joined the growing ranks of facilities that have developed studios dedicated specifically to digital film production," said da Vinci Vice President of Marketing Matthew Straeb. "We're pleased that they've recognised the critical role our revival system can play in minimising production time while delivering a high-calibre digital product."
