Visions orders Waveform Monitors from DK-Audio

Visions, the UK's largest independent outside broadcast facilities company, has ordered six PT5664 digital and analogue component/composite waveform monitors from Danish manufacturer, DK-Audio.
The units will be installed in a new outside broadcast vehicle that Visions is building specifically for the US market.
Rob Newton, Visions chief engineer, said the 26-camera vehicle will have double expanding sides and a two-tier production area, capable of housing up to 14 staff. US coachbuilders Girling have already delivered the body of the truck and Visions engineers are now installing the equipment, which includes Thomson audio and video routing, 18 VTRs, a Thomson vision mixer and a Calrec Q2 audio console. The vehicle will also be equipped with SDI and HD cable so that events captured live can easily be converted to HD at a later stage.
The new vehicle has been specifically designed to suit the requirements of the US market and incorporates input from key US clients. Newton said: “The vehicle will be delivering its first job at the French Open tennis championships in Paris. Then it will return to the UK to capture Wimbledon before going to Athens for the 2004 Olympics in August. NBC will be working with the truck across all three events.”
DK-Audio’s PT 5664 offers new dimensions in alignment and monitoring in component and composite video environments. It features analogue displays for Serial digital components, analogue components and analogue composite signals. Its natural application is in studios, OB-vans, production and post-production houses.
Signals generated in graphics stations, DVEs, VTRs, cameras and mixers can be quality checked both before and after their encoding to PAL or NTSC. This is vitally important for broadcasters, particularly those dealing with live events, as incorrect adjustment of equipment such as VTRs and DVEs can jeopardize the quality of the video signal. Errors in amplitude and timing of the component signals can cause serious faults in the picture - for example, poor colour alignment or badly defined transitions.
