Thomson launch two new products at Broadcast Production Show

Thomson, the world leader in integrated solutions (technologies, equipment and services) for the entertainment and media industries, is launching two new additions to the award-winning Grass Valley brand M-Series intelligent video digital recorder (iVDR) line at the 2004 Broadcast Production Show.
The new M-Series iVDR additions are the M-222D and M-322-D models. The M-222D features four audio tracks that support AES/EBU digital audio, embedded digital audio and simultaneous analogue and digital video outputs. The M-322D offers this same functionality and adds expanded bandwith to record and play 50Mb/s DV and MPEG-2 compressed video. The M222-D is field upgradeable with the extended bandwith functionality for users who need to add higher bit rates at a later date.
Thomson has also announced a software upgrade for M-Series iVDR users containing a host of new features. The upgrade also lets users integrate an iVDR with Grass Valley Digital News Production (DNP) products and the Grass Valley NetCentral Simple Network Management (SNMP)-based remote monitoring application. The software upgrade is available at no charge to existing users of the M-122A and M-222A iVDRs.
With a familiar interface, removable media and multi-channel playout and record capabilities, the M-Series iVDR does the work of multiple VTRs. But its digital storage, networking and software tools enable it to things a VTR can’t, such as trim and create video clips and subclips, build playlists and exchange clips with news, graphics and other applications.
Marc Valentin, President of Thomson Broadcast & Media Solutions, said: “The M-Series iVDR is an important example of how Thomson is driving digital affordability for broadcasters and video professional – our customers can get more done with one iVDR, with less time and cost than they ever could with multiple tape machines.”
