RTP INSTALL QUANTEL’S INSPIRATION

HELPING them meet the most demanding news deadlines, Portugal’s national broadcasters, RTP, are set to install Inspiration, the integrated news production solution from Quantel and OmniBus Systems.
Inspiration comprises OmniBus machine control, media management, desktop browse and play-to-air technology supported by Quantel video server technology.
OmniBus Chairman, Glyn Powell-Evans, said: “For major broadcasters like RTP, an efficient news production solution provides the life-blood of their entire facility. In order to maintain their edge, they need a system that can make last minute changes to accommodate late-breaking stories and yet can also create polished and expertly-packaged bulletins. Inspiration can be relied on to get high quality stories to air in seconds. Its also capable of supporting anything from one to 250 journalists.”
Following a tender process beginning last November, RTP confirmed their decision to install Inspiration at their Lisbon headquarters by signing a contract with Quantel’s Portuguese distributors, Ibertelco, in June 2001.
Inspiration will provide RTP with integrated server-based digital production for news bulletins on two national terrestrial channels, RTP1 and RTP2 (which will be extended to provide 24-hour coverage), two terrestrial thematic channels and two satellite channels, RTP Africa and RTP International. It will also interface with RTP’s existing iNews Newsroom Computer System through the use of the MOS protocol, which OmniBus played a key role in developing.
Systems integrators, Television Systems (TSL) have already built the broadcast infrastructure for the new installation at their UK headquarters in Maidenhead, where testing and training are currently in progress.
The system will be shipped out to Portugal and should be fully installed there by November this year. Using it, RTP will then carry out dry runs ahead of a scheduled on-air date in March 2002. (CD)
