Dolby announces development of digital cinema presentation system

Dolby Laboratories has announced the development of a dedicated digital cinema presentation system.
The system, presented to the motion picture industry at ShoWest 2004 in Las Vegas on March 22, is being developed as a practical and flexible equipment package designed to deliver the best possible cinema experience.
Building on Dolby’s unique experience as a pioneer in entertainment technologies and as the leading supplier of cinema audio equipment, the new solution will offer key advances in reliability, flexibility of operation, adaptability for the future, and system security. The digital cinema presentation system includes both image and sound components, and incorporates the open standards specified by Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).

In creating the new system, Dolby has drawn on vast experience with production and exhibition, processing systems and cinema equipment design, and acquisitions of leading imaging and security companies. The digital cinema presentation system will be manufactured and serviced by Dolby on a worldwide basis.
