Academy Awards subtitled live in Spanish with CPC software

CPC CaptionMaker software was used to provide live, real-time Spanish language subtitling of the Academy Awards broadcast.
Real-time Spanish language subtitles allowed the vast Spanish speaking audience in Latin America to understand the spoken dialogue of the Academy Awards broadcast as it happened.
This real-time capability greatly added to the enjoyment of the broadcast for Spanish speaking viewers, since they could experience the excitement of the ceremony as it happened and not later, when they already would have known who the winners were.
A translator listened to the broadcast in English and provided a simultaneous, verbal translation into Spanish. A court reporter listened to the Spanish language translation and entered it as Spanish text into a steno machine. This process took only five to seven seconds.
The CPC CaptionMaker software then instantly transformed the steno machine output into a format which is easy to read by viewers. The CaptionMaker software was used to specify the number of characters per line, and lines per subtitle. The font style was also specified with the CaptionMaker software. The software conveyed this information to a character generator, which output the Spanish subtitles.
